We love longer lashes because they instantly give us bigger, sexier eyes. The latest lash enhancing treatments and conditioning mascaras give a simple way to add drama and impact.
There’s a grow-your-own revolution in the US – and it’s got nothing to do with gardening. Women looking for longer, fuller, darker eyelashes are no longer opting for false lashes or extensions, but are turning to a prescription service which could spell the end of these – and standard mascara, too. MyLash, has many high-profile devotees, including London lash queen Sue Marsh. Sue, who counts Elle Macpherson, Patsy Kensit, Trinny Woodall and Amanda Holden among her clients, specialises in couture eyelash extensions, but she says she has long sought a more permanent alternative.
“I have to admit that extensions can, in the long term, damage your lashes, so I needed to find a way to strengthen, lengthen and thicken my clients’ lashes without them,” says Sue.
The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a prescription-only treatment for treating sparse eyelashes, and the active ingredient has been patented. However, beauty companies have been working hard to create cosmetic treatments that have the same effect, yet can be bought over the counter. The result is products such as RevitaLash and Peter Thomas Roth Lashes To Die For, both with active ingredients that mimic the action of prostaglandins, and Jan Marini Lash, which features a lash-lengthening peptide.
Even L’Oreal Paris has taken its haircare knowledge and applied it to lashes with its Lash Renewal Serum, which contains a protein particle that strengthens hair. If you’re serious about longer lashes, you could use a serum at night and a treatment mascara during the day. Each normally takes around six to eight weeks to work – so start now and you’ll have longer lashes by Christmas.
